What is Thyroid Gland Problem? Its symptoms and treatments

There are mainly two types of problems related to the thyroid gland. These problems are hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is caused due to over-production of the thyroid hormones whereas, hypothyroidism gives rise to the thyroid hormone which are less in the amount. But both the problems belong to the one category, i.e. hormonal gland
Hypothyroidism occurs because of some removal or damage in thyroid tissues. Anti-thyroid antibodies that are quite common in those people who are afflicted with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic hepatitis, diabetes and Siogren syndrome can also cause it. Hereditary issues are also responsible for the occurrence of hypothyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism can be caused due to abnormal production of the thyroid gland by TSI that is present in the blood system. Extreme stimulation of thyroid gland results in the creation of goiter. This can also result in the formation of thyroid gland hormones known as thyroxin.
Some of the common symptoms of hypothyroidism are:
- Lack of appetite
- Excessive hair loss
- Intellectual disability
- Depression
- Weight gain
- Dryness of skin
Some of the common symptoms in infants are:
- constipation
- jaundice
- Loss of appetite
- stunned growth
Some of the common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism are:
- Nervousness
- Lack of sleep
- Enlarged eyes
- Chest pains
- Weakness
- Pain in joints
There are numerous medications which can be effectively used to cure these two thyroid problems. The treatments which are used to cure hyperthyroidism include Propylthiouracil, Iodide, Methimazole and Beta-blockers whereas the medications which are used to cure hypothyroidism include L-triiodothyronine, thyroid extract and L-thyroxine. In some extreme cases, surgery is also required.
