Usually the women whether or not they are overweight are seen struggling with the cellulite issue. The fat
deposits cause this dimpled appearance of skin. Cellulite occurs after puberty that may appear on abdomen, hips, buttocks and thighs. Some interesting terms for cellulite in colloquial language are cottage cheese skin, hail damage, mattress phenomenon and orange peel syndrome while the medical term for it is adiposis edematosa.

Cellulite is body fat but not ordinary one. The fibrous connective cords connecting the skin to underlying muscle cause the cellulite which is made up of the cells residing within the skin. As the fat cells lying in between the skin accumulated by the tethered effect of fibrous cords to deeper structure push up against the skin with long tough of these cords pulling down, an uneven surface or the dimpling effect is created.

Cellulite has not to be necessarily treated since it is not a serious medical condition though its occurrence is normal among women. Women far more than men develop this problem because of a naturally large percentage of body fat in thighs, breast, buttocks and the hips. There are a few contributing factors to having cellulite that establish it may not be all your fault:

Hormones such as thyroid hormones, estrogen, prolactin, noredrenaline and insulin play an important part in the development of cellulite. People consuming carbohydrates, fat, salt in excess and too little fiber may have greater amounts of cellulite. Lifestyle factors like people exercising less, standing or sitting in one position for a long time and smoking may suffer from cellulite.

It also develops when you wear underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks that limits the flow of blood. Apart from all these factors, genes also have to do something with this problem. Your chances of developing cellulite may increase if females in case females in your family have it.

There are some ways through which one can reduce the appearance of cellulite as there are no pills and creams, supplements and other treatments are rather expensive:

Exercise is the first thing one should consider since cellulite is a form of fat. Furthermore, a balanced diet consisting of soy, fiber, eggs, raw nuts, flaxseeds and fruits such as pomegranates and oranges can help you to an extent to rid yourself of these unwanted dimples.
