Types of skin cancer

Malignant Melanoma-This is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. It occurs in around 10% of cases. It is important to diagnose the melanoma in the early stages as it may spread to internal organs. The moles which grow in size and change in color may be common sign of malignant melanoma.

Squamous cell carcinoma-It is mainly caused due to over exposure to the sun. The recovery rate is very high. The chances of full recovery are increased if it is diagnosed at early stages and removed.

Basal Cell melanoma-This type of cancer has low mortality rates.

Symptoms

• The skin sores becomes persistent
• Moles gradually grow in size
• Darkened spots of dark brown color
• The lumps become pinkish
• Persistent itching

Causes

Skin cancer is mostly caused due to prolonged exposure to the sun. The ultra violet rays damage the skin. The risk increases for those people who work outdoors. Even some of the skin conditions such as burns and scars cause skin cancer. Sometimes the certain chemicals such as petroleum products, soot, tar causes cancer indirectly.

Prevention

• Do not spend too much time in sunshine
• When you are out, cover yourself
• Use sun protection creams and blocks
• While handling the chemicals use gloves and equipment
• Avoid burning your skin and sun damage
• If you observe any changes in the skin, seek the medical advice as soon as possible.

So prevent yourself from the symptoms of skin cancer since skin cancer is the most preventable form of cancer.
