It is important for a woman to know if she is going through bleeding due to implantation or menstrual cycle. This will, in turn, help a woman expected to carry a baby to know whether she is pregnant or not. The subtlety of the difference between the two makes it difficult for a woman to identify the signs of bleeding following implantation. Let’s understand:

The implantation process happening in the fallopian tube situated near ovaries starts the minute the sperm acts on the egg leading to its fertilization. After nearabout five days of fertilization the fertilized egg or the embryo adjusts itself according to the lining of uterus which is full of blood and nutrients that help in the growth of baby. The discharge of blood from the lining of uterus as a result of embryo traveling to the uterus through the fallopian tube known as implantation bleeding. The color of this discharge is either pinkish or brownish and it’s only spotting unlike regular menses.

It is not necessary that the implantation bleeding occurs every time you’re pregnant. It might take place only during one pregnancy. The symptoms of implantation bleeding are as under:

However, sometimes, there is discharge in the form of red blood dots but it only rarely happens. Besides, the bleeding is without any clots unlike menstrual bleeding and the color of implantation bleeding is dull.
  • This bleeding is light as against the heavy bleeding during menses, so light that at times women fail to notice it. A woman experiences it for three days though in rare cases, it may remain for five days.
  • Another symptom of implantation bleeding is mild cramps. Women can also experience breast tenderness. Misunderstanding stress to be a symptom of implantation bleeding, women can treat it as a small menses affair but yes, you’re pregnant in case, this bleeding is accompanied by constipation, nausea, fatigue, dislike for food, raised basal body temperature and food yearning.

The implantation bleeding is not harmful at all-it is just that the body removes a quantity of blood.
