Cancer is the second most deadly disease that brings certain risk factors with it. As such, it is necessary for us to maintain a healthy diet in order to reduce cancer risk. Fiber rich diet, fruits and vegetables along with 100 percent fruit juice help reduce the risk. Let us take a look at some foods that help us fight cancer.
Tomatoes are awesome super foods for fighting cancer. It is a good source of vitamin A, C and E that help fight free radicals causing cancer and also contain lycopene, an antioxidant which helps in reducing heart disease risks. They can be used in a variety of ways for adding a twist to your favorite dishes.
Strawberries and blueberries are rich in vitamin C and fiber. They are quick and simple finger foods that can be added to your favorite whole grain cereal oatmeal and low fat yogurt.
Stuffed with antioxidants, watermelons contain 80% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. Like tomatoes, it also contains lycopene and is a good source of vitamin A or beta carotene.
Cabbage, a cruciferous vegetable, provides 50% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C and being rich in fiber constitutes it into a complete anti-cancer power pack. Additionally, it also helps in reducing colon and rectal cancer. Similarly, carrots are good source of fiber and beta carotene, containing three times the recommended daily intake of vitamin A.
Do you know that a quarter cup of kidney beans hold equal amounts of protein as in two ounce red meat? Another great source of fiber is whole-wheat pasta and broccoli tips your daily vitamin A and C requirements. Mix them up with favorite Italian dressing for a simple cancer fighting proportion dinner.
Phytochemical rich foods are strong choices that are found in beans and cruciferous vegetables such as Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and kale. Leafy dark green vegetables like romaine lettuce, collard greens and spinach are all packed with cancer fighting substances such as Carotenoids, fiber and lutein. Be aware to choose foods abundant in vitamin A, C and E which are also antioxidants. These prevent the growth of free radicals thereby helping you to fight cancer.
