About 80% of people suffer from acne skin conditions in their teens and twenties. Additionally 5% of people suffer it in their older ages. Many of them recover from this skin complication without any problems but many others are left with acne scars. There are numerous skin products and OTC medications that help in curing mild scarring problems. For the severe ones, they are treated by combining surgical and skin resurfacing procedures.
After the healing of acne lesions it leaves red or hyper pigmented marks on the skin. This is actually not a scar but a post inflammatory process indicating the healing process that takes around 6-12 months time. If no more lesion appears in the same area then it heals naturally but if the marks remains constant for almost one year then its considered to be permanent. The best ways to prevent acne scars is to avoid acne lesions from originating. This can be easily achieved by knowing the factors that trigger acne and using appropriate measures for treating the different types of acne.
In one or the other ways people develop acne and it is therefore better to promote the natural healing procedures. Here are some useful tips – direct exposure of the affected skin areas may worsen the skin condition. Hence, consider wearing good sunscreens. Using Tretinoin helps in healing of post inflammatory conditions. Formulations of Alpha-hydroxyl Acids (AHAs) and Beta-hydroxyl Acids (BHAs) containing the correct concentrations and with appropriate ph helps in the remodeling of the skins. Picking the scabs before the time interrupts the healing procedures going underneath it. This just prolongs the time in which post inflammatory changes appear.
There’s a hype about antioxidants facilitating the healing of skin damages and even permanent marks. However, till now no studies have revealed such facts that any oral or topical use of antioxidants prevents or heals skin complications. In fact, vitamin E when applied topically resulted in doing more harm than good. As such, an antioxidant research continues and many believe that scientists can find a way in which the antioxidants can reverse the skin damages.
No matter what type of acne you suffer its important to keep a track of the healing procedures. Many people worry about the redness and hyper pigment marks that remain in view for more than skin months. But it is normal from medical point of view. However, if it continues to remain constant then it is better to consult a doctor or a skin specialist for having the best recommendations. In most cases the scars can be treated off medications and surgical options are used in very few cases. Remember that prevention is always better than cure and preventing the symptoms and causes can further help in treating the acne marks.
