Some Facts about Cluster Headaches – Causes and Medications to Treat it Effectively

Cluster Headaches are most severe form of other headaches such as migraine headaches and tension headaches. Generally too much stress, body fatigue, eye strains are main causes of headaches. Although it has not clarified yet what is the main cause of cluster Headaches, such headaches attacks are defined as a series of headaches which may be severe in intensity and often occur for a day or even last a week. Most of the time it occurs while steeping and it is more painful than daytime attack.  It has been found in many cases that duration of cluster headaches can be fifteen minutes to three hours.

Migraine and tension headaches are generally linked with stress, hormonal changes and food but cluster headache is never associated with these symptoms. But while one has this attack, consumption of any kind of drug and alcohol may aggravate cluster headache. Hence, most of the people who suffer from cluster headache try to avoid drug and alcohol during the period they have cluster. Further, possible triggers comprise the use of medication like nitroglycerin which is used to treat to cardiovascular health.

The unbearable pain of the cluster headache can be prevented by some treatments and medical therapies.  Cluster headache treatments such as oxygen treatment or surgery never triggers cluster. Injection of octreotide and sumatriptan are very effective to control the excruciating pain of cluster headache. Most of the doctors prescribe drugs such as lidocaine and dihydroergotamine to lessen the impact of pain of cluster. The best way to get rid of cluster headache to control yourself and be careful before eating any foods that can cause cluster headache attack.
