Snoring is caused due to blockages in air passage areas. Normal airflow could be obstructed through due to falling back of tongue or collapsing of muscles in throat or mouth. Snoring normally occurs while sleeping as we are in a quite relaxed state during our sleep. This relaxation state may enable certain uncommon muscle behavior or narrowing of air passages leading to snoring.

For effective relief we need to recognize the contributing factors that contribute or may themselves be the root cause for the problem. Appropriate remedy depends upon the type of factors contributing to the problem. Continue reading the article as we examine some of the factors and related remedies below for curing snore problem.

Weight: In today’s modern world, our busy schedule, physiological problems and consumption of much healthier foods can contribute to our snoring problems. Many people around the world today are overweighed. Normally overweighed people tend have more snoring problems than normal weighing ones. This is due to the fact that overweighed individuals are fleshier or have extra number of tissues that may narrow the air passage area. As such these people are advised to reduce their weight that not only comforts them but also reduces the intensity of snoring.

Alcohol: Alcohols before sleeping increases the relaxation intensity during our sleeps. This further contributes to unnatural muscle behavior causing collapsing or vibrating of muscles or narrowing of our air passing areas. These muscle behaviors causes snoring problem. Hence it is recommended to avoid alcoholic drinks before sleeping.

Smoking: Among the various effects of smoking, it also causes unnatural modifications of throat cells. These changes include growth of mucus for accommodating smoke and absence of inflammation while nicotine passes through the tracts. Therefore people with snoring problems are recommended to prohibit smoking.

Sleeping Habits: Sleeping habits includes your sleeping postures. Those sleeping backwards tend have more snoring problems than those sleeping their sideways. Back sleeping posture provides an extra relaxed state to your throat muscles. The gravitational force causes floppy fleshes and tongue to hang around interrupting the normal flow of air through the tracts. Besides sleeping sideways, sleeping in an elevated position also helps reducing snoring problem. Consider sleeping in a 30 degree elevated position that would relax diaphragm thereby preventing tongue from falling backwards.

Sleeping Patterns: Snoring problems are caused due to abnormal breathing during sleep. Generally, there are two stages of sleeping which affect breathing. The first stage comprises of the state where you have just fallen to sleep. The second stage comprises of REM sleep, i.e. Rapid Eye Movement caused due to dreams. Normal breathing may also be affected due to inconvenient sleeping conditions. You may be disturbed in your sleep due to grunts or some other noises coming from bed or your partner.

At least 8 hours of sleep is necessary for you to take a complete rest. This is only possible if you have favorable sleeping conditions accompanied by better sleeping postures.

Medical Problems: Among medical problems large tonsils, adenoids, excess of mass and unnatural growth of throat tissues can interrupt the air flow. Similarly, allergies and irritation on these tissues can also cause inflammation and swelling that might trigger snoring. Under such circumstances surgery is recommended.

It is not necessary that snoring may be caused due one of the above given reasons. But it can also be caused due to a combination of these reasons. Recognizing the factors and treating it with correct measures ensures quick and effective relief from snoring.
