How to Deal with Gum Infections after Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction helps avert any additional damage to teeth structure in the region of infected tooth. However, one of the most common causes of tooth extraction are infection or tooth decay but gum infection may also affect the underneath tissue and bone formation of the teeth. In rare cases, gum infection occurs after tooth extraction.

Though tooth extraction process, in most of the cases, goes on very smoothly but in few cases it may become a reason of infections. Tooth extraction may set up damaging bacteria inserted in bloodstream which further turn into gum infection.

Straight away after extraction, the first symptom of infection is bleeding. It normally happens within 48 hours of extraction. Although it is not a critical thing, however, you should consult your dentist to stop bleeding and take some antibiotic in order to reduce the pain. Although tooth removal can cause too much pain and is required to be dealt instantly but you should not take any antibiotics until your dentist has prescribed them.


To prevent gum disease, you should avoid chewing tobacco, smoking and sugary foods. Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated.

Most of the dentists prescribed mouth wash which helps in curing the condition.  Mix salt with water and gargle it; it will certainly help reduce the pain and effects of infection. To get best and faster results, you can add turmeric in water. You can also use ice packs to reduce swelling on gums and cheeks.

Chorhexidine is one the best antiseptic mouthwash. Rinse mouth everyday with chorhexidine before brushing teeth; it is totally safe for its antiseptic properties. If you have proper information about the disease, you can easily cure it at home.
