How to Cure Swollen Taste Buds?

Swollen taste bud is actually a nasty condition not only because they affect your taste for food or appetite but also are painful. Taste buds also called as papillae and generally found on the tongue surface. The taste receptors or taste buds are made up of a group of receptor cells attached nerve cell bundles such as facial and gloss pharyngeal nerve.

Swollen Taste Buds: Causes

  • Eating very hot food items that may burn or irritates taste bud and causing swelling.
  • Having very salty or spicy food.
  • Exposure to toxins such as insecticides, tobacco smoke, alcohol, etc.
  • Eating acidic foods such as grape fruits, lemons or allergies to certain food
  • Gastric condition named acid reflux disease.
  • Tongue or mouth ulcers due to any yeast infection or thrush can cause swelled taste buds.
  • Certain mineral or vitamin deficiency like B complex vitamin deficiency can also cause swollen taste buds.
  • Trauma caused to the taste buds or tongue by stomach infection, biting or allergy that can cause inflammation to the esophagus.

Home Remedies for Swollen Taste Buds

  • Baking soda-Application of baking soda relief a person from swollen taste bud. T actually cools the swollen taste buds, reduce it and ultimately treat it.
  • Ice- Apply ice on the taste bud which is swollen. This will reduce the taste buds swelling by cooling it.
  • Gargle- Gargle with salt and warm water.
  • Oral hygiene-Regular oral hygiene is important like regular gargling with mouthwash and brushing. This diminishes the bacterial activity or eliminates them totally.
  • Control the intake of unsweetened yogurt- When dealing with germs and bacteria in the mouth effective means is to control the intake of unsweetened yogurt. Yogurt actually increases the micro flora number in the mouth and thus creates a balanced environment.
  • Avoid touching taste buds- To avoid a worse conditions, don’t touch the swollen taste bud with bare fingers as,  it may trigger to more irritation and then more bacteria will  affected the tongue area.
  • Sesame oil-Oil pulling with this oil is also a beneficial remedy to cure this condition and also the oral diseases.
  • A soup using pepper, ginger and garlic and pepper fights the mouth infections.

Other things that can help a person in relieving swelling of taste buds is to avoid drinking alcohol and smoking as these can cause irritation in the swollen bud.
