Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD was commonly known to be an issue relevant with children. It was so believed that it was only a childhood complication that also prevailed in some adolescents and itself vanished in adulthood. But with gradual development science and medication has helped in identifying this complication as a separate issue. Earlier the ADD complications were treated as other complication symptoms and as a result it was also found in some of the adults.
Diagnosing of the ADD in adults is a much complex process. This particular issue begins during childhood. Many people are totally unaware of the fact that they ever had any such complications. This is so because many people don’t even remember much about their childhood experiences. Another problem associated with ADD in adults is that as a person moves from adolescence to adulthood the symptoms of ADD become unobservable. They become so unobservable that many adults do not even meet the full DSM-IV criteria. The degree of impairment caused by ADD may vary among individuals depending upon their domestic or professional conditions.
In a majority of cases, a large number of ADD adult patients are not treated correctly. Even during childhood the diagnosis procedure is not implemented properly. This is due to the fact that often the symptoms include impulsivity and inattentiveness. Many people learn to mask these symptoms through their intelligence and by modifying their behavior. This masking of the symptoms becomes the main hindrance for treating the ADD.
This also makes an adult masking his ADD symptoms becomes bored of his continuous routine tasks and after a specific period of repeating it seems to be tedious to him. This may often result in frequent job changes, troubled personal relationships, suffering from financial problems and interrupting others work directly or indirectly. Such an adult person may also get quickly angry but also tends to cools off at the same rate. As such the responsibilities falling upon concerned person often makes others call them immature or selfish.
There’s no magic cure for adults suffering from ADD. Many times adults often tend to use those medications that are prescribed for children. Adults must consider their age and size before locating a diagnosis for their symptoms. Therefore, before taking any psychiatric or medical help a person must first try to educate himself about each aspects of the disease. Gaining self-knowledge is very crucial for better dealing the issue and learns how to master the undergoing complication. Further, the ongoing researches have provided efficient help and will continue providing the best available diagnosis.
The most recommended treatment for the ADD symptoms suggests that these individuals must form a structured lifestyle. Planning regarding daily work schedules should be formulated. Such vocations or professions must chosen that best suits the patient’s personality. Engaging yourself into improper routines or professions may have negative results. For instance, those who suffer from restlessness must try to make a daily schedule for exercise and work breaks. Recently, it has been revealed that both adults and children suffering from ADD have risks of getting affected by other disorders too. Children have less of these chances but the adults who have long lived with the symptoms are more prone of these attacks. Although, if this is the case then other disorders must be treated first before treating the ADD symptoms.
But an interesting thing about the ADD is that it may prove gift for some individuals. Often people suffering from ADD learn to cope their disabilities and formulate ways for focusing their energies for gaining the self-knowledge and working quite accurately towards the goal. Remember, if this had been such a negative trait then it would have been killed by a cure many years ago. Hence, a positive attitude and approach is required towards not only ADD but also towards other complications and disorders.
