Kidney is an important organ in the body. It forms a part of urinary system. The main function is production of urine and cleaning the blood. It is present in both vertebrates and invertebrates. Some other functions of the kidneys include balance of acid –base, regulation of electrolytes, maintaining blood pressure and production of hormones. But when the blood has an excess amount of sugar, it causes damage to the kidneys.
The high concentration of glucose present in diabetic and obese people causes many problems and other functions in the body. Generally the obese people and diabetic have a risk of being diagnosed with the serious kidney problems. The condition when kidneys fails and causes damage in diabetic patient is known as diabetic nephropathy.
There are very few symptoms of early signs of kidney damage. You will only come to know about kidney damage when you undergo check up and tests. The doctor performs attest to check for the protein in the urine. If your doctor finds presence of protein, he will monitor it and find the exact treason behind it.
In the early stages of diabetic nephropathy, the kidneys are still bale to function properly and continue its function. It also cleans the blood. If one had high levels of sugar in their blood, then he must take steps to control the sugar level. This prevents from further damaging of the kidneys.
However if your blood sugar levels is not controlled in right time, it may affect the kidneys badly. It leads to high build up of toxins in the blood because the kidneys are not able to filter properly. The last option available for you is kidney transplant or dialysis
Dialysis is a method to clean the blood using the external machine which remains hooked up in the body. You can also go for kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantations is replacing of failed kidneys with working kidneys.
