Causes , Symptoms and Home Remedies for Burns

Most of us have already experienced the traumatic condition called Burn in our lifetime A Burn is a traumatic injury caused by fire, stram, excessive heat, chemicals, light, friction, radiation or fire. Burns are categorized into 3 types – first, second and third degree, depend upon skin damages. In first degree damage only causes to the upper skin layer which gets healed in 1-2 days, while in second degree burns are causes blisters and are more severe. The third degree, however, is much painful and also need extra care and attention. The Third degree causes damage to each skin layer and is very painful. It makes the skin look highly burnt as the injury causes deeply inside the nerves.

Causes of Burns

  • Contact with radiation or fire
  • Inflammable gas or liquid burn
  • Chemical burns
  • Electricity burns
  • Therapeutic burns (as in laser or operation etc)
  • Burns of skin due to contact with hot materials like cooking utensils.
  • Hot Water ,Scalds from steam, tipped over tea or coffee cups and so on

Common Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Shock
  • Weakness
  • Bluish fingernails and lips
  • Faintness
  • Breathing
  • Rapid pulse
  • Clammy and Pale skin

Home Remedy for Burns

  • Application of  ice on the burned area.
  • Dip the affected skin or part in chilled or cold water for at least 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Apply honey on the affected or burned area and cover the affected area with the help of bandage.
  • Apply a yogurt on the affected area or burn and keep it for 15 minutes. It cools down the affected area and provides some relief.
  • To keep a onion piece and keep over the affected or burnt area. It provides quick relief.
  • Put the burnt portion or affected area in a milk filled bowl for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Apply of egg white on the burnt area.
  • Application of diluted vinegar on the affected or burn. It is very effective in healing process.
  • Lavender oil is also works in treating the affected area.
  • Aloe Vera works effectively on burns.
  • Apply papaya pulp on burned area. It helps to remove dead cells from skin.

Skin burns causes lack of nutrition, such as zinc, copper, and selenium, which slow down healing process and increase infection risk. Thus it is very important to have a proper diet. These remedies speed up the recovery process and help to decrease the risk of Infection.
