A bony growth usually found under the calcaneus bone or heel bone leads is medically known as the heel spur. Calcaneus or the heel bone forms the largest bone in the foot that acts as a shock pressure absorber as we move and walk. It is this part that causes pain when we jump or do similar actions suddenly. And hence, this leads to severe heel pain.  The pain becomes intolerable when we place our weight on our heels.

In addition, heel cradles or heel cups are recommended to ease this kind of pain. Doctors even suggest people shed extra pounds and select appropriate footwear that have cushioned soles to help absorb shock and must provide adequate support to help control foot alignment.

In severe cases, cortisone injections help decrease the inflammation of the plantar fascia. Surgery also assists to remove the problem. Since these treatments can lead to many problems hence, they are used as the last options. Conservative methods such as foot orthotics can be taken as per one’s choice.
