Though women aged 60 and above are more prone to cervical cancer but women approaching their forties are also seen to be infected with this disease. In US alone, thousands of cases of this type of cancer are diagnosed each year resulting in many casualties. It is second prevalent cancer after breast cancer. Human Papilloma Virus which is also called HPV, a sexually transmitted virus, is the culprit in most cases of this type of cancer which wreaks destruction on the cervical cells by remaining in the female genitalia for an extended period of time.
Some of the abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix induced by HPV result in ‘high grade lesions’ as they are medically known may sometimes turn into cervical cancer; however, It is not necessary that all cases of HPV infections lead to cervical cancer. Other factors that cause and become the reason of progression of this kind of cancer are weak immune system, numerous sex partners over a period of time and the premature sexual activity. Cancer cells afflict surrounding tissues and muscles in the advanced cases of this sort of medical condition.
The familiar signs of cervical cancer can be listed as below:
1) Normal bodily functions cause pain and this includes pain during bowel movement and when one pees. When one feels pain that is caused by urinary tract infection or UTI, one should know that this is the sign of muscles of reproductive system reaching a hyper-sensitive stage.
2) About-to-occur stages of the cervical cancer also include abnormal bleeding from vagina or unusual blood spotting. One can see it taking place in different forms such as bleeding from the vagina after sex, blood-spotting between menstrual periods, blood-spotting after the stage of menopause, bleeding from the vagina after douching and bouts of light and heavy menstruation.
3) Another sign of this type of cancer taking shape is pain that precedes bleeding from the vagina during sexual intercourse. Pain in the cervical area in advanced stages may well be the sign of the cells of cancer spreading out to the areas surrounding the cervix. Inflammation or the increased sensitivity of the cervical muscles and tissues is the possible reason of this pain.
It is important one should go seek the help of a medical profession as soon as one notices the above-mentioned symptoms so that one can get treated for this condition in time.
